Nice Change Of Plans
The weather had looked questionable for today when I checked the forcast last night and saw the emence blob of rain heading our way, so I figured an hour on the spin trainer would be what Teusday would have in store.
Luckily the rain blew through last night and I woke to sunny skies and nice temps. Didn't want to take the chance on the trails sucking, and I really didn't feel like doing a "normal" road ride. So I decided to spend some intimate time with the Dos Niner... on the road.
I rode 5 miles on the rail trail hauling ass at roughly 19 mph then hopped off the trail and on to the road and did a big chunk of my road loop then got back on the RT for another 5 miles back to the Black Box. Got just under 2 hours of riding in and about 34.5 miles.
I used the Dos Niner at the Mohican 100, which had a few road sections, so I knew from that experience that the Dos rocks on the road, but somehow forgot.. until tonight.
In many sections I had the big wheels rolling as fast as my road bike. I had grown to hate riding my mountain bike on the road, but on a 29er you just don't feel the same as on 26". Feels a bit more natural, and not as goofy- minus the whirl of the Maxxis Ignitors.
All in all, a nice change of plans.
Later.
