Racing The Return Of A Rancid Beer

I took today off from work. I got me a stock pile of days, so I blew one today, just to get some shit done around the house. Lawn, groceries, laundry etc., I also got all my gear ready 'cause it looks as if unless another hurricane blows in tonight or I sleep in, I'll be heading down to Big Bear to do the 12 hour race WVU cycling is putting on tomorrow.

Taking this one nice and laid back. Just me, solo riding as many miles as I can in 12 hours. Not sure how many racers will be there, what the conditions will be like, or if I'll make it the whole 12 hours, but the plan is to race and have fun on the great trails Big Bear has.

The race will be on the same course s the 24 Bours of Big Bear, 12 hours instead of 24 and $25 for solos instead of $330. Hmmm I'll take a slice of that action.

So I go to buy bear today. Not seeing anything in my price range except for the Lancaster Brewing Milk Stout. I remembered having one down a Brew Fest at the Penn Brewery last year and totally dug it , so I picked up a case.

First thing I notice when I open the case is that there's dust and what appear to be mold spots on the outside of the bottles. Hmmmm, WHAT THE F*CK?? I look for a date on the box, but no luck. So I dust the bottles off and chill a couple while I mow the grass.

After my shower up, I pour one. Looks good. Dark color, nice frothy head. DOHHHHH!!! It tastes like sour grapes in milk!!!!! Skank, nasty, grape fungused beer in a bottle. UUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!

I had Wifey taste it when she got home from work and she confirmed "that's nasty".

So for the first time in my life I took beer back to the store. I mean were not taking about PBR or Bud. I'm not 21 anymore. I drink good, craft beer, that tastes good, and I'm NOT paying for that.

The folks at the Beer & Lottery store in Monroeville (right next to Pittsburgh Pro Bikes) were great and let me exchange it no problem. They're great folks there with a great selection of micros and imports. If you're loca, dig goood beer or just want to play the lottery- go check 'em out.

Poneyed up the extra cash and now I'm rocking the BIG beer and the Victory Storm King Imperial Stout.

9% of smooth-ass, drink two and feel your face get warm Imperial M-F-ing Stout.

Look forward to 2 to 4 this time tomorrow night.

OK, gotta get up at like 4. a.m. so...

Later.
