Morbidly Obese Tuesday
Wow, yesterday’s rode bike build component issues sort of got me off my blog game. I re-read my post and though- “boy that sorta sucked”. But today is another day. I have had some semi positive feed back about my Bontrager wheels. Positive meaning that Bontrager wheels have a 5 year warranty. My wheels are 4 years old. And my local Trek dealer said he'll need to look look them over and see if it’s a warranty issue.
I can’t get a warranty replacement I won’t be “jacked”. I just don’t want to spend a ton of cash on my road bike. My back up plan is to either get another pair of Bontrager Race wheels, have the wheel rebuilt, or go with a pair of Ultegra/Mavic Open Pros. Deals can be found on them everywhere. They’re a solid, reliable 32 spoke wheel. Nothing fancy, but my road riding is ANYthing but fancy. Then again most places that aren't a kick ass sponsor like Bikeman.com will stick me for $30+ in shipping costs! Eeesh!
Here’s where I talk about watching grass grow- OR my time on the stationary trainer....
“Sometimes you’re the bug, sometimes you’re the windshield,

and sometimes you have to forget stupid sayings and just get shit done"
Since I did slow, big gear, knee grinding, intervals yesterday, tonight's plan was to spend a lot of time in the 39 opening the legs up, and working the heart and lungs. I got to minute 45 and told myself “I think 60 min. will be just fine”. But I knew I’d be disappointed in myself for bailing and not sticking to my plan.
So I went into “workout salvage mode”. And pulled 36 minutes of “Beer Shot Intervals” out of my ass. A shot of beer is not big deal, but do enough of them and you’ll probably get a tad drunk. So I found a gear that was no real “big deal”, but enough to get my HR into high zone 3/ low zone 4 while maintaining 95-100 RPM for 1 minute. Then I did 18 of those over the next 36 minutes. These were NOT anaerobic, puke on the top tube, beg for mercy intervals. But threshold intervals. They were enough to pass the time and enjoy that 5-minute cool down at the end. I was really geeked with having salvaged the workout and kicking my own ass in the process. Time for a rest tomorrow night.
CAMPEON UPDATE: Tom just called and he has solved my crank issue! Resolved by using a 1mm spacer between chain rings to move the 50 tooth out and make the crank more of a true 9-speed crank, rather than a 10 speed crank that you CAN use a 9 speed chain with, as long as you don’t mind loosing 4 gears! Picking the bike up tomorrow and should have some pics up tomorrow night sometime. Thanks Tom! Now I just have to get the wheel issue solved, so I can FINALLY ride it. I'm stoked!
So other than throwing beads at my female co workers today (resulting in not one exposure, but several threats of calls to the HR Dept.) that's all my Morbidly Obese Tuesday had in store for me.
Time to go sacrifice a virgin inner tube to the Ride God of 5 Year Limited Warranties.
Later
