Done With It
I am officially done with the mourning of my suck performance at Big Bear. No use dwelling on it. I'm will not make excuses for my performance. Yes, it was hot, it was muddy, and I had no power. I sucked. Time to mmmmmmmmmmmove on. There's a whole season of racing still to come.
No doubt on Saturday I had some thoughts that I would never race again. What's the point? Yada, yada, yada... The point is good or bad, suck or podium, I enjoy racing. I enjoy thinking about it, reading about it, writing about it, and damn it I enjoy riding my mountain bike. Whether it's 3 laps or 15 laps.
Next up- The 12 Hours of Cranky Monkey. I was disappointed that I was going to miss this race it 2008. But to do a 12 Hour so soon after a 24 Solo would have be stupid and a recipe for burn out. But since I only raced 3 laps at Big Bear... Game on! Signed up today and come June 28th, I'll be good to go.
There were threats of strong storms around today, so I opted for some spinning and some core/weight stuff in the basement. Nothing too nut dropping, just needed to do something. I'm riding tomorrow for sure, I'm just not sure where. Can't wait.
Took the time to give the Dos Niner it's second post Big Bear wash tonight. This time it was "the good wash". Simple Green, lube, etc., Should be ready for action now.
Time to look at bike porn.
Later.

I reckon its time for you to get out the stankment and relive riding in the natural surroundings. Too many posts on being locked up in the cement cellar. rain only makes the training more interesting and if these are the conditions during a race it may be a factor that you're forgetting. Take a look at my post on Absolon
True. But sometimes life gives you an hour. You do what you can with it where you can. Nice article.
NICE...way to jump right back in the saddle.
See you at the Monkey.
There you go Jason! That's your mantra right there: "I enjoy racing. I enjoy thinking about it, reading about it, writing about it, and damn it I enjoy riding my mountain bike." I'm sure you'll find your mojo at CM.
Talking about affirmations, I did my first ever race last sunday, riding my SS29er and my category I finished 10th...out of 14.
I don't give a sh*t because I never thought to be racing (or riding faster than my usual pace) at age 40, and loving it! Ready for the next one already!
Kudos for writing such a compelling race report.
Namaste, Niek
See you there Travis.
Niek- Thanks sounds like you did well to me! First race? Nice job and on a SS 29er. That must be pretty rare over there? Keep on getting it done man!
