Gold Is Gold and Either One Is Sweet

Nothing much going down today. Busy day at work, and got out just in time to enjoy 2 hours of heavy rains. Fantastic. Oh well, all that got nixed tonight was mowing the grass. My yard looks like stepped in dog feecus whether I mow the lawn or not. So I doubt anyone will even notice tomorrow when I skip mowing/trimming to get a 2 hour road ride in. I KNOW I won't notice.

The Mountain Bike World Championships went down this past weekend. Over the past few months I have read how some athletes were trying to peak for the WCs, some for the Olympics and some for both. I know I'll be poo-pooed by 90% of folks, but if I were and elite athlete and had to make that choice I KNOW I would be choosing trying to peak for the Worlds.

When a cyclist wins the World Championship he/she is immediately recognized in the cycling community for the accomplishment and if you're from any other country other than the U.S. you probably get some immediate notoriety and props in the mainstream media. In the Olympics I think there is SO much going on that many sports no matter HOW cool (ahem! Cycling!!) get buried in all the "feel good" track and field, gymnastics, stuff. Plus, I figure as many people know mountain biking is an Olympic sport as know that synchronized swimming is an Olympic sport! And sadly, probably less care.

Don't get me wrong, just competing in the WCs or Olympics would surely be something that any cyclist would remember forever and winning either of them would have to be just mind blowing. But I'm sticking with winning the World Championship would be better since you wouldn't have to put up with all that "we are the world" Olympic bull shit and/or be forced to wear some degrading Olympic outfit during the opening ceremonies. Just my 2ยข. And believe me, it's worth WAY less than that.

I love this pic of Christoph Sauser crossing the line.
Can you even imagine what that felt like??

A race is a race as soon as one person tries to go faster than the other, but crossing the line and seeing all those people and photographers HAS to feel pretty cool. Hell, I'm just happy when I cross the line!! :)

Time for some eye drops.

Later.

Stay on top of the eye drops or you will have "Ole Pinky" revisiting you.

How did my Doc put it.. You think it's ok, use the drop for 3 more days. =)

Have a good week.

Later.

That photo is pretty cool. It is how I imagine finishing any race. Even the lonely unsupported ones in the desert. You feel like nothing else in the world even exists, and that all eyes are on you.

In his case, that was nearly true.
