Midas In Reverse Tuesday.
Today was one of those days that thankfully only comes along every so often. It was Midas In Reverse Tuesday. Everything I touched seemed to instantly turn to a lump of hairy dung. Sit back and enjoy my shelprockness...
Loaded the Campeon up on the car this a.m. so as to ride this evening. Looked down and notice that my bike computer is kaput. Water apparently got inside it when I drove home from my dad's in a storm on Sunday and has rendered it useless. It was a vintage Cateye iMac "orange" one. VERY 1999! It logged thousands and thousands of miles. Now it's just a water logged piece of plastic on my bars. Drat. Ordered a cheap one from The Goat. Should be here in a day or so.
Lunch time came and needed to head to the mall (grrr) to have a necklace repaired for Wifey. Got in my car, turned it on and notice something very strange. No music. I must have turned off the CD player. Ah... nope. The CD/Radio player is dead. I thought it must be the fuse. So I replaced it. Nothing. Dead. Kaput. Now I have to drive in silence. Dear God!!! I can't do it. My time in the car is my only real time to enjoy music. Now I have NOTHING! I of course have to get it replaced and am NOT looking forward to having a new CD deck installed in a car with 90,000 miles on it. Shit! Oh well, maybe I can get one with an iPod jack and then I can ditch the 50 scratched CDs that slide around in my car.
Luckily (I did have a LITTLE bit of luck today) after rains last night and this morning, it got pretty nice out and I was able to get my 30 mile road loop in. I did my fave climb in reverse making it my fave descent for today. That way I was able to climb slowly on the oil & chipped road rather than try to bomb down it and eat a face full of gravel. My legs felt damn spanky and I was having a great ride.
I got to about mile 24 or so and was cruising along a long flat stretch. I started thinking to myself about how great the ride was. EVEN without my old bike computer to keep the stats and make it "official." Just as I finished that thought I looked up to see a bee/hornet/wasp/bat/small stinging bird flying right towards me and DIRECTLY into a vent on my helmet. Whatever it was then proceeded to lack some serious stinging smack down on my skull. I tried to get it out, knocked my glasses off my face and onto the road and pulled over to try to get it out. I must have looked like a buffoon. My Tifosi's survived and MORE importantly there were no cars behind me that could have run my ass right over.
OK, so it was a shit day. Sort of. Sort of because even though a bunch of shit went wrong I have to TRY to look at the bright sides...
Dead Bike Computer:
It was cheezy, and outdated. I'm getting a new one.
Dead Car Stereo:
It skipped a lot, and had no iPod port. I can get a new one pretty cheap.
Bee Sting:
It was just a freaking bee. I'm not allergic and no car ran me over.
If this sort of shit didn't happen to me what the f*ck would I write about?? Plus, even with some bad luck, it wasn't ALL that shitty of a day if I got to spend 2 hours on my bike. At least my ride didn't end like THIS....

Sorry to hear about all that happening in one day, flush it.
Did you get a gander at the tour today? That climb/descent had to put a smile on your face.
Some sick footage, might have been the best I have seen. Altitude/lack of trees gives the helo options I guess.
Dude, I had the same thing happen yesterday...well, with the bee anyway. He nailed me twice before I could get rid of him, but luckily, I also am not allergic. So I just kept pedaling. Hardly missed a stroke actually.
S.T, yeah that was a hell of a stage! Best so far. Today should be good too.
Dan, at this was on my noggin. I've had them in my jersey and that sucks more! Careful out there!
bummer day. try this one though: while doing a final clean before the inspection of your house you REALLY want to sell only to find a shitload of mold in the basement. yeah, good fun.
Today, I had a bird get all up in my face. I'm beginning to think that mother nature has it in for me.
