It's Official!

It's official. Fall is here. I wore a jacket to work, I took the A/C units out of the windows tonight, and I had to turn the heat on in the house. Frig! On top of that I can feel Wifey giving me the stink eye as she waits for Winter Jason to arrive.

Lots of folks love fall and winter. Not this kat. Yeah, yeah, the leaves are great to look at. UNTIL you endo over a rock or cut sapling because the friggin' leaves covered it. Let's see how much your broken collar bone is diggin' the leaves. Football? Please. MLB Playoffs? Again, please. Halloween? I don't get it. In fact I dread it, because of the sick amount of kids over the ages of 15 that show up at my door wanting candy. At what age does it just become begging?

I do kinda dig Thanksgiving, 'cause Wifey and I have hi-jacked that holiday to have at our crib. And I get to cook up a bird and enjoy a few fall brews while doing it. I dig that. I choose not to even think about the Christmas Holiday Season. Then it's New Year's- BIG F'ING DEAL! The date changed.

FINALLY on January 2nd I can just embrace the full on misery of Winter in WPA. Of course I DO get to counting weeks instead of months until my first race. Usually about 15 weeks or so. Seems like a lot until you look at in training blocks. Then it's only like THREE blocks. And that can be motivating to get your ass out in the cold to get base miles in or in the basement getting time in on the trainer as you think about that first race. I've been lucky to do the Leesburg Baker's Dozen the past two years as my fist race. I don't doubt it will be my first of '09 as well. Hmmm, NOW I'm starting to get a little tingle in the nether regions.

That felt good I need more tingle! Oh yeah I'm sure there will be some other good bike related things coming down in the next few months and I'm anxious for all that. In fact I know there will be lots of good things coming in this off season. After all "off" doesn't mean no riding! It means no racing. Plus Fall and Winter means heartier BIGGER beers! Oatmeal Stouts, Imperials, Barley Wines, Yum! As Homer Simpson would say-
"To alcohol! The cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems" Ha!

So I guess the key to fall is to look at the glass as half full, not half empty? EMBRACE IT! Ah f*ck it, my pint glass is half empty. Fall and Winter blows, and I can't wait for Spring. Let the countdown begin. My eyes and legs start looking forward to 2009 on November 3rd. Then it's only about 20 weeks until my first race OR about 5 training blocks! Joy.

Later.

There is the same air of anticipation in our house. I am not a nice person to live with in January, February or the first hald of March at least. I have been threatened with being kicked out for a week in the sunshine with my bike if I get too miserable. I don't see how that could make me want to behave any better.
New road bike coming today, I am like a kid on Christmas eve...
