We Have A Clot To Talk About...
Man, what a day. As you may or may not know I've been rocking a swollen right leg for a few weeks now. Kept thinking it would go away. It didn't. I went to the Doc on Friday and they said they were 90% sure I was fine. BUT they wanted to make sure I didn't have a blood clot in my leg. Well, they were 90% wrong, but 10% right in making me get the test, because it turns out I indeed DO have a blood clot in my right calf.
So after I got a scan of my leg today it was home to get Wifey (who thankfully was off work today due to Columbus sort of, almost discovering America) and headed down to Mercy Hospital to sit for 3+ hours in the waiting room to get admitted (so I thought). After I FINALLY got in, the Docs looked over my pics, talked to my Doc and decided that I can take care of all this on an Out Patient basis.
So now I get to pretend I'm a junkie for a few days and inject myself with some medicine in my stomach. I figure I'll just put on some Spiritualized or some Spacmen 3 and chillax as blood thinners course through my body. Oddly in talking to the Docs, it looks like I'll be fine to keep riding. I do need to find out if Lovenox is a banned substance though. If it is, I'll stick to road riding so I can feel all Euro Road Dog Cool throwing syringes away before my ride. I'm kidding. Eesh. The worst news I got today was finding out I've gained about 10 pounds. Eeeesh. I didn't take the blood clot news as bad. Maybe I'll be lucky and the 10 pounds is ALL in my right leg! HA! Yeah, right!
Glad to be home and NOT in a hospital bed tonight. Off work tomorrow to get the rest of the Doc appointments taken care of then back on Wednesday for week of deadline madness.
EDIT: Interesting Read!! And THIS! And THIS ONE. Sorry, but these make me realize that EVEN a fit person can be at risk.
Later.

At least the docs didn't set you up for an AFRO, you must have decent blood flow down that leg.
Best of luck to you.
damn dude, that could have been big time bad news....glad that found out what it was before things got much worse.
Enjoy the time off thou, your body needs it.
yeah, seriously, good thing you went in when you did.
Just think, when you have full blood flow again how bad ass that calf is going to be! It'll be going around beating up other calves just cause it can...
been following your swollen leg closely.
glad it can be helped out patient.
be safe, see you soon.

Kev, not sure what an AFRO is (other than a hair style) but it can't be good.
T & R, yeah, from now on no fooling around. I'm done using Web M.D. to avoid co pays.;) I like to think that since I've been riding well with one leg filled with stank blood, once it's gone I'll be flying. I doubt, but I like to think.

Good luck on the recovery! Damn lucky you went in and caught that thing.
Be well
wow! Glad it looks good from here on out. The riding will probably actually help unblock the clot. A 100-miler of the Laurel Valleys and Mountains will help even more.
I might need to hit up the doctor to look for blood clots in my neck, cuz my head has just been getting bigger and bigger.
Thanks folks. I am indeed lucky. If that thing would have broke, I'd be riding the big single track in the sky right now.
Aaron, if it gets bigger maybe you can chuck grad shool and become a human bobble head.
Wow, never heard of DVT before or knew that something like this could affect cyclists. Sucks that you & I have boring desk jobs that could add to the problem. Well I guess I just found an excuse to leave my desk more to take random walks during work.
