My Gameshow Life
First some non bike talk..
I had a very interesting work day. Nothing really happened (yet), but a lot of things were proposed to me (and others) that COULD be changing my life a bit. I don't want to go into it too much, but lets just say it feels sort of like a game show. I could pick Door #1 and walk away with close to a year's time to find what I want to be when I grow up and maybe do some side or part time work. Or I could pick Door #2 and gamble that my name is not picked out of a small hat of names to receive a booby prize in the form of Federal Unemployment. Door #2 does also holds the Wild Card that my name is not picked and I continue on as normal (at least for a while) in a dying industry. Oh yeah, we were all informed that there will be no wage increases in 2009.
So as you might imagine I have a bit on my mind today. Wifey, and some other folks whom I trust seem to think I've been given a gift to get my (work) life sorted out. But I don't know. Like I told Wifey, whichever decision I make, I have to make it the right one and not do any "what ifs and maybes". One thing's for sure I just MIGHT be getting that extra time to train real soon. Nothin' wrong with that!
OK, back to bike talk and my normal nonsense:
Picked up my leg warmers at Pro Bikes today. Ended up going with the Cannondale leg warmers. I wanted the Endura ones, but none were to be had as first thought, so I went with the C/Dales. Seem like a good fit and should be plenty warm. Beats the tights/bib set up I've been using and the trashy knee warmers I had. Thanks as always to Pro Bikes for the hook up.Hit the trainer for a quick hour tonight. Had some other stuff to do, like fix the shitter in the upstairs bathroom, so i couldn't be on there too long. On long enough to realize that I'm freaking LOVING this CD:
You technically can't get it yet, but I stumbled upon 12 or so tracks and I have to say this is my fave CD of theirs so far. The single Ulysses is titz!! Take a look...I'm telling you I LOVE this CD! I have all their shit, but the songs on this one are excellent with a mix of cool bass lines, harder rythms and better production. (IMHO).
Time to go update the Pro Bikes blog and roster pages.
Later.

Take the cash. Take the CASH. TAKE THE CASH! I work in this little HR industry thing and can say unequivocally I know of nobody that's taken the cash and come out worse for it--but plenty that didn't and were f'd!
Door #1. Take the year to find another job. Also just think of all the riding you will get to do! Also think how much happier you will be if you don't have to go back to working your current job. And like you have said before, Wifey got your back.
Good luck!
take the cash, freelance doing graphic design for bike/outdoor/adventure magazine stuff, then start your own
I'd like to say I'd take the cash but I don't really know what I'd do. Good luck with the decision man.
Oh the redundancy game!
It is easy to say take the cash and start a new life. I bet you are already going through the figues at moment. If you do, look at the worst case scenario!
I thought my "golden handshake" would last me until July. I already have to deduct a month now because we had a water leak and the insurance will not cover it.
I personally believe that the downturn will last another two years. Most companies are or will cut down on Marcoms activities of any kind.
If you pick door #1 you might find out that they don't want you to leave after all. A friend of mine "volunteered" just to find out that he was key worker. He even ended up with a pay-rise.
In my case I took the cash as the alternative hours and pay was not worthwhile staying on. Apart from that I could not do the job on a shoestring budget without the "string".
So at the moment I wonder "what" to do with the 2nd nipper being due in April and the missus not being paid during her maternity break.
It is a unique position as it really makes you think outside your comfort zone. I am now looking at three alternative carreer paths that I have not considered before.
I also get far less cyling in as exploring these opportunities/alternatives takes up a lot of time.
The decision whether to go for option #1 or #2 will be a tough one. Unfortuntely you have to make this decision on your own. Thinking aloud/Talking to friends and family helps to form a good decision.
GOOD LUCK
Take door number one and hope there's not a cheap catamaran behind it.
Life always has a way of working out for the best, even when it feels like it won't.
Cheers
good luck man. from an outsiders point of view door 1 seems best but what the f do I know?
I just got the album, it freaking ROCKS... good call
