Now That Was More Like It
I was anxious to get back on the bike today after yesterday's Semi Pro suck fest. While today had no promises of single track or endless low traffic roads, it did have a certain something, that made the ride fun, taxed the legs and made me work. I went out for my semi tri-weekly, borderline bi-monthly, almost tri-annual Rail Trail/Shit Road/Road ride on my mountain bike. In today's case it was my Dos Niner.
Just about everytime I do a ride like this, I wonder why I don't ride my 29er on the road more often. And today was one of those days. Yes, my 29er is slower and heavier than my road bike, but the way I look at it I NEVER race my road bike. EVER. Yet I often race my mountain bike on couses that often have road and forest road sections. So why not ride it MORE on the road?? I mean f*ck, half of Western PA's roads are so bad you're probably better off WITH a mountain bike, or a Cross bike anyway. I guess using the road bike does cut down on the wear and tear of the race bike.
Even though the Weather Channel was showing a bright sun icon, to describe the weather around Pittsburgh today, there was no sign of sun or blue in the sky ANYwhere. I guess the Weather Channel's "powers that be" have now just given up, and as long as it's not raining, it's "sunny" in Pittsburgh.
It was warm though, and nice and humid. One of my fave riding conditions (at least until my glasses fog up and I die of dehydration). In fact it was so humid someone found the need to ditch their thong at the entrace to the rail trail.
"She had dumps like a truck truck truckThighs like what what what
All night long
Let me see that thong"
-Sisqo
> RANT: Dear GOD those are real lyrics!!! JHC!! If I wouldn't have read it I would never have believed it. Yeah, and the music I listen to his lame. WTF?? We're all doomed. I mean I've TAKEN dumps like a "truck truck truck", but have NO idea what the "dumps" the much lauded poet Sisqo is referring to are. RANT OFF<
After about 5 miles on the trail trail I hopped off (thankfully), got on some of my normal road loop in and then hit some shock worthy back ghetto farm roads. I wish we had more of those around there. Most are steep, covered in loose rock, and riddled with pot holes. I actually think some of the forest roads on the mountain are smoother!
Rail Trail, sans thong.
A played shot, but there's something
to be said for slow shutter speeds.

Oh well, I could blather on more about my ride but I won't. It was fun, felt great and I got nearly 40 miles in. Not the most scenic, the most epic or the hardest of rides, but it was fun, and once again left me thinking that riding the mountain bike on the the roads, rail trails and pseudo paved services that I have at my disposal is a good idea. Hell I may even do it all over again tomorrow.
Time to go "make my booty go da na da na and take a dump like a truck truck truck"
Later.

Nice orange Pro Bikes stem cap. LBoH finally upgraded mine to red.
Yeah, he pimped it. I thought yours was pink?
I have to admit when doing solo stuff, I kind of enjoy riding my mtb on the road too.

I don't mind my single speed on the road (if the gearing is ok) but I H-A-T-E my gearie on the road. Not sure why really.
