Extra Moist
Finally, back in the saddle! Sunday was a "recovery day" (code for a day to sleep, eat and drink beer), Monday was a "bust my ass to finish up XXC #7 day," Tuesday was a "curse the rain and PUBLISH XXC #7 Day," and today was the day to grunt out the mental constipation of 3 rideless days, chamois up, and ride.
In the rain.
Curses.
Curses.
I looked at the radar before I left the house, there was some rain coming, but I thought it would miss me. It didn't. But luckily it wasn't TOO cold, so I was able to rely just on lycra and a thick isulation built by beer, beans and cheese.
What started as a mist, turned to a drizzle, then to a steady rain. Aside from being a tad cross eyed from looking through water covered glasses, and the feeling of cold, dirty water exiting the chamois pad and entering my keester's orifice, and probably spawning a pinworm or two, it was pretty darn, not bad to be out on the road in the rain.
The rain was nice and steady for a bout the first hour, hour-fifteen of the ride. At one point I thought about turning back, but in the end said "what the 'f", I'm already wet" and kept on. Glad I did too, 'cause the legs were spanky and the brain was sucking on the newly spawned endorphins like a champ.
The change in scene (road, not dirt), and the change back to WPA's normal weather (rain, not sun) was also a good kick in the creative nads too. I mean what's so fun about pics of sun? The trusty EasyShare 7430 was kicking ass today, caring little for it's own safety and getting the shots. I kid of course, I would trade a few random rain shots for 2:30 in the sun any day! With about 5 miles to go I went a bit further so as to take a left that I thought would add just a couple miles, and avoid a road I hate. It didn't. I missed a 2nd left turn, and kept on trucking. In the end it took me close to 10 extra miles, no where near the road I wanted, and on to a road that was busy and not all that fun to ride on. Again, I say curses!!!
3 hours later the sun was out (after over 72 hours without), the Tour o' Cali was on TV, and some LCD Soundsystem was stuck in my inner Hi-Fi (NOT the dreadful single "Drunk Girls" which was left off the iPod. That song is dead to me. LOL!). So the day was a nice way to bounce back from 3 days off the bike.
The newly cleaned Campeon was covered in layers of mud, dirt, and water. Serves me right for washing the dam thing! Of course I was covered in all that too and I had to stop at the Post Office post ride, to mail some mag stuff. So I did a quick change out of the soaking wet chamois and jersey so as not to be walking around the Giant Eagle with a wet ass, looking like I just shat myself. As I put my bibs and socks in the car, I saw my fave T6 Argyle (circa '08) on the roof of the xB. Thought to myself, "shit I can't forget that!" 2 hours later.... DOH! MY JERSEY! So a quick drive with B-Man later, there was my Argyle laying on the road, but in one piece! LOL!Did I mention XXC #7 is out? No? Well it is. ;)
Looks like sun for the next two days, so I hope to continue with some mileage.
Later.

Don't sell short Pinworms as a weightloss strategy. Much better than dieting.
If I thought that would work, I'd put one in myself.
Love that first shot Jason. Wish I would have taken that one.
Thanks for doing XXC. Thanks for the mail delivery too. I think my ti bike will have a new sticker for Dirty Kanza!
Thanks Jason. I get lucky every so often and an pic turns out not bad.
Enjoy the issue.
Thanks!
