Is it dead?

Is the blog dead? Not this blog per say, but in general. With 99.9999% of everyone on earth posting about every time they blink, shit, fart, or burp on Facebook and Twitter, is this (almost) lowest form of written communication/online voyeurism dead?

I have been dropping nonsense since 2005, and for some reason can't seem to stop posting even though I would have to offer up one of my testes in sacrifice just to get a comment on this digital fish wrap. I really don't look at numbers or shit like that on this here blog given that I get NOTHING from posting this dross, it's just a way to keep a diary of sorts without sounding like a 13 year old girl, or someone really gay. To me it seems like most folks just don't have the will to write more than a few words, or the want to read more than a few words these days. Again, I'm not really talking about THIS blog, I'm not really bringing anything to the table anymore (if ever), it's just an observation.

Back to my dross... I didn't ride today. Instead I took B-Man to his last basketball practice/game. They played, he scored two baskets, I was super proud, and he was super cute. He's the best.

I got well over 10 hours of doing stuff this week. The Barry-Roubaix is Saturday, and I am stoked to kick of the season even though the weather here still sucks frozen hairy balls.

I MUST get some quality work done this week or risk the mag imploding more than it already has. Good times.

Later.

the blog isn't for the reader. It's for the writer. I've tried to walk away from mine a couple of times. But I enjoy it. I like telling stories.

having a readership is cool, but also a secondary result... Not the primary goal...

keep up the good stuff...

I've wondered about that too, but in the end, who the hell cares... In 1000 years, some future wacky hacker will stumble upon these blogs like ancient egyptian writing and... well, I don't know:).
Anyway, I think there are people that read, they just don't comment. The just like to watch, er, read:).

Marc and Dave, thanks for the comments, I believe that too. I have been doing this for so long now, that it just something I do. I mean I have NEVER sat down at the computer and thought, "I really need to tell the freaking world that I went to the gym or rode 30 miles." Like you Marc, I enjoy telling stories, I have found that I LIKE writing stuff, even if it is about my sub par riding/racing/bike life.

Can't imagine not writing, so I of course will continue on as long as it makes me happy, as you both should too.

I love that you keep writing and more than just a few words. I try to keep my blog up to date, but since taking on a job last year that involves a lot of technical writing I find it hard to write. Keep up the great work and good luck at the BArry Roubaix. We have a Barry Roubaix here too(British Columbia) and looks like it will be my first race of the year too.

I agree, it is more for the writer and not the reader. I too write to basically give myself a record of what I do.

As for readership, I had a political blog I used to maintain and had a decent following. The key was to being networked with other bloggers. Unfortunately, politics pissed me off to much...so now its all about the beer and bikes!

I dig your work. I forget who I linked off of that led me to your blog, but I check in all of the time. I have spent all of my 41 years in your new home state and I hope you grow to like it as much as I do. A few things: 1) this winter is like no other I have ever seen. It's usually not this bad. 2) If you are looking for some Michigan climbing and a great family vacation head to the Leelanau peninsula. It's northwest of traverse city. .5 - 2.5 mile climbs, little traffic, great roads, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, beaches and hiking trails.

I read your blog - is my attention worth nothing now that you're in the big, glamorous MI?

my blog sucks giant moose ass, but i can't stop. i barely have a following and my numbers (when I do check) suck even bigger giant moose ass - like Sasquatch ass! i choose to write less and post more photos - i can barely read and have no attention span - maybe there are others out there like me?!?

on another note . . . north carolina in two weeks - be there or be a waffle iron. that will give you something to write about!
