Layin' Low, Not Hangin' Low

The lack of posts here on the blog is reflective of a couple things, mostly being that I haven't been out on the bike since Saturday. That's about it. Sort of...

Sunday was yard work madness trying to get it all tidied up before the snow flies, Monday was me being ballz deep in the yet to be published XXC Magazine #14 and posts at xxcmag.com. Today brought the Deer Holiday... yep, a day off for kids for the opening day of rifle deer season here in Michigan. Since I don't hunt, me an B-Man hung out, played some soccer and went to the book store so he could get the new
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid book (and has read 50+ pages already) while I looked at bike magazines. I then alternated between jealousy and overwhelming hatred for mankind.

Why? Well just because 98% of all magazine fall under some corporate publishing company. Because of their backing they can pay more cash, for more for stories, can offer subscriptions to boost numbers and in turn get advertisers to pay bills, etc.,. XXC can't do that. I get jealous, I get bitter, then I just say "fuck it," I'm pumping out a great mag by myself (along with my awesome contributors) and being a real fly in the ointment to some folks as they are forced to realize how they bullshitted folks into thinking that no one races mountain bikes anymore. I can live with that (for now), but it sure would be nice to get a pay check. Or at least attract freelance writers and photogs without offending them with the low pay out.

Speaking of pay checks... or is it sleep?

My sleep issues have improved as of late. Slightly, but still better. I think it has something to do with my dietary changes. Of course I still can't go to bed without 1. Having a panic attack about dieing. 2. Thinking about loved ones dieing. 3. Obsessing about what I need to do the next day and 4. Dreaming/having nightmares about working an office job, (usually at my old job at the paper), hating it, but knowing that I would get paid at the end of the day. I still wake up at 4 a.m. every day, but seem to be able to fall back to sleep a bit quicker. So that is good. I guess. Therapy beckons.

Back to school for B-Man tomorrow, so I hope to hit some trails. Wifey is out of town all week up in Traverse City, but I should be able to get some miles in whilst the little man is at school. I continue to be sorry for the lack of bike related material here. Please check out xxcmag.com for more ACTUAL posts about riding and endurance mountain biking. Thanks.

Later.

Damn dude, I can sympathize with the sleep problems. I've had a couple of sleep studies to try to get to the root of my own sleep troubles - apnea and restless leg syndrome, along with a lot of stress. Now with the fractured skull I'm having the worst sleep ever. I keep waking up in a near panic attack because of the tight cervical collar (I'm claustrophobic and dream that it's choking me). Anyway, I can relate to the agony of poor sleep.

Oh yeah, my boy just got the latest Wimpy kid book TODAY. Love seeing kids read...

Man, I will take being wide awake at 4 a.m. over a cervical collar. A good buddy of mine once had to wear a halo on his head for months after he broke his neck. I have no idea how he did it. Hang in there.

Wimpy Kid.. B-Man knew it was being released today and we HAD to go to the bookstore. He really had to twist my arm for that to happen! Ha!
