Yeah, you need an adapter to use road levers/v-brakes (I did that on an old Jamis Nova and worked pretty good, but these are SUPPOSED to be better with no need for an adapter, we'll see. My Jake is a '10 I believe, no top mounts.

I was snooping around a little and it seems the standard mountain bike V brake isn't compatible with road/cx style brakes and shifters. Yeah I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to road components. I had been thinking about ripping off a pair of v-brakes from a junk mountain bike but I'll buck up for CX specific brakes if it will keep me from stabbing myself it the eye. What year is your Jake? Does it have the stock levers on it with the extra inline top mount brake levers?

With the advent of brakes like the CX9s pictured and now with discs of all sizes and weights coming down (I would guess) hopefully we can say goodbye to the bullshit that is cantilever brakes forever. ;)

Cantilever brakes why?!?!?!? I'm befuddled. Why are cross bikes or any bikes equipped with cantilever brakes instead of side pull 'V' type brakes. Is there some hidden advantage to them? I'd rather stab myself in the eye than adjust old school cantilever's but unfortunately I would just end up with a stabbed eye and brakes that don't stop me. So instead I torture myself for two hours making the brakes on my cross bike actually work. I need a couple sets of these.
