Cool, anxious to see you La Cruz. The LC is on ANOTHER Lust List. This is the 29er HT lust list ;) The steel of the EM is True Temper OX Platinum tubing, so it's pretty top notch. I had a Ti 26" so I know I like that too.

I found the (admittedly cheap) steel mtb that I had a couple of years ago a nice ride, but heavy and a bit flexy. To be honest I think the Mamasita is as foriving as the steel frame was certainly there is a big difference between the mamasita and the first Al Scott mtb I owned. I haven't owned a Ti bike, but I rode my dads Moots YBB a couple of times and that is SWEET, just a pity he is smaller than me and it is a 26"er. Can't you demo some bikes? Otherwise what you are describing sounds rather like the La Cruz that I have coming my way at some point (it's been on order for weeeeeks)
If I were going to pay to go custom, then I think I'd save up and go Ti as well FWIW.
