Not to sound like a dirt bag, but I actually bought my Lakes used. Dude I knew was sponsored by them, got a new pair with his deal, and I got some gently used ones for about $100 (or less, can't really remember). The generally keep me warm enough. Unless shit is REAL cold.

Couple years ago, I let a salesman talk me into a pair of Specialized Defrosters and out of special ordering a pair of Lakes. Lakes had a run of bad shoes, defects, seams coming apart so I was a little warey of plunking down 300 bones even so Lake stood behind their product and replaced the shoe for the guy anyway I thought half the price and endorsement from sales guy so I went with the specialized frost bites err I mean defrosters. Typically I'll be warm as toast but my feet are ice blocks. I won't mess around with pricy covers that wont fit very well around a winter boot I'll probably bite the bullet and get a pair of Lakes.
